Brooke – Supporting other women to find their self worth, helped her see her greatest strengths
Brooke has been part of her local community house for more than 20 years and gets great joy in seeing others build their own self worth and self confidence – something she saw first hand when she participated in a styling session at Dress for Success Tasmania recently.
Brooke has two adult children and it’s only been in recent years she has found time to focus on herself.
“I like to be able to help, I want to. I’m not able to undertake paid work due to a chronic health condition but I can volunteer and feel part of the community that way.”

Coming to Dress for Success was such a positive experience for Brooke. Selecting the special items, she got to take home presented Brooke with a level of choice she hadn’t really experienced before.
“I am still wearing the clothes I got the first time I came here. I never would have been able to buy that outfit – that just wouldn’t have been possible. Being able to choose what I wanted, I just loved that.”
Dress for Success creates a non judgmental space for all clients who access the programs and services and Brooke felt that in her interactions with the volunteers and staff:
“The stylists were absolutely marvelous ladies who were very easy to talk to and get along with. We had a ball and felt at ease – it was just such a great day. You are not looked down upon and you are left feeling so special.”
Brooke has become an advocate for Dress for Success services and programs in her community, telling anyone who will listen how great the programs are.
“A lot of people are struggling and sometimes a pick me up from someone you don’t know, can do a lot for someone’s self esteem.”
