HER JOURNEY, YOUR IMPACT

Meet Alexandra, a determined woman with a story of resilience.

Alexandra found herself in custody, isolated far from her family in New South Wales, with a new job opportunity on the horizon. The need for appropriate work clothes underscored the daunting challenges she encountered while transitioning back into society.

In need of help, Alexandra was referred to Dress for Success.

Before her styling session with Dress for Success NSW & ACT in Sydney, Alexandra admits to feeling mixed emotions; "I was anxious but also excited to get styled," she recalls, acknowledging the complexity of her feelings during this new phase in her life.

With the guidance of her volunteer stylist Annika, she embarked on a journey of rediscovering her confidence and beauty. "The stylist was very kind and had great style, which made me feel beautiful," she expresses, emphasising the profound impact of the experience.

"After my session, I felt beautiful again."

Choosing the job styling service, Alexandra found herself not just outfitted for employment but equipped with a newfound sense of self.

For Alexandra, the support she received was life changing. "It changes a life, boosts self-esteem, and motivates me to promote Dress for Success to all inmates who require support," highlighting the ripple effect of empowerment.

Dress for Success is one of the main connections for women seeking support to rebuild their lives.

The styling session with our Volunteer Annika helped prepare Alexandra for her new job and instilled a sense of purpose and independence and determination to work hard.

No longer defined by her past, Alexandra embraces the opportunities ahead.

"I feel like a civilian again. I don't feel like an inmate anymore."

A testament to the transformative power of support and encouragement.

Looking to the future, Alexandra plans to utilise other resources offered by Dress for Success, specifically the online
Career Hub. She is eager to continue her journey towards personal and professional growth.

Before her styling session, Alexandra described her feelings in three words: anxious, nervous, and excited. But after? "Grateful, powerful, independent," her words resonating with a newfound strength and confidence.

Reflecting on her experience at the Dress for Success boutique, Alexandra praises its warmth and hospitality. "The boutique was beautiful, very welcoming, with warm and helpful volunteers." It's clear that for Alexandra, the boutique wasn't just a place to find clothes—it was a sanctuary where she found support, encouragement, and a renewed sense of self.
